Jen J. Balberona is a filmmaker, producer, and co-founder of Bakunawa Productions, an independent creative production house based in the Philippines. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila with a degree on Fine Arts major in Advertising. Her first short, SIGBIN, showcased her signature style of interspersing still images and video into her works. It screened at the 2017 International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen, Germany as part of The One Minute film series "Nightmares of the Sun" curated by Khavn Dela Cruz. Her second short, BLACK SKY, won the Jury Prize at 2019 Festival de Cine Paz Mindanao. In 2020, it was screened in Festival Signes de Nuit in Paris, France and was nominated for Best Short Film at the Gawad Urian Awards, one of the prestigious award giving bodies in the Philippines and presented by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Philippines’ Film Critics). Currently, she’s filming her first feature documentary regarding women’s right in the Philippines all through Duterte’s rule.
