Our home has all the things we hold onto but not necessarily carry with us everyday. It has all the things that are dear to our hearts knowing that we can come back to them at the end of each day. Sometimes we leave behind a home that no longer “sparks joy” for greener pastures. But we will, without knowing, always bring a piece of our real home with us. When I was 14, my dad started working in Japan. He’s a very neat and organized person and it was relatively easy for him to adapt to a place where you already look and act like the people.

Each time we see each other again it’s a conversation of comparison “Buti pa sa Japan.. ‘Di tulad sa Pinas.” A new and better home he seems to have found. But through this series I wanted to depict the sentimentality of things; juxtaposing a culture that hoards and a culture of minimalism. Though my dad has assimilated into a different culture, we bring back the culture of home to him when we visit him there. I wanted to capture that moment when we leave him to go back home to the Philippines and the greater absence that we leave behind. *The series was made of be read from left to right.
